The literature on patent citations is vast, and numerous studies have been conducted on different aspects, e.g., ethnicity [11, 12], social networks , geographic proximity [14, 15] and so on. Instead, in this paper we aim to study the patent citation network from the perspective of citation forming mechanisms and the factors that influence them.
